sports bra history
Sports bras were invented in 1977 by Hinda Miller and Lisa Lindhal, two Vermont joggers who were tired of their breasts bouncing with each step. Lisa supposedly joked around with her sister, saying that there should be a jockstrap for women. From that inkling of an idea, they came up with a wishlist of everything they thought a jogging bra might need.
They got a costume designer, Patty Smith, involved in their project and tried out some ideas. But it wasn't until Lisa's husband put a jockstrap around his chest one night that the design came together.
The very first jog bra was literally made by sewing two jock straps together.
Miller and Lindhal formed a company called Jogbra and history was made. These enterprising women made millions by the time they were 40. Jogbra was eventually bought by Playtex.
