cleaning

You do NOT have to wear a dirty sports bra! You don't even have to wear it twice without washing. Honestly, that's kind of gross, don't you think? Sports bras are apparel, just like everything else you wear. With a little care, you can have a clean bra every time while still maximizing the life of your bra.

When you're ready to wash the bra, clasp the sports bra shut (if it's a front or back closure). Those clasps can easily get bent out of shape in the washing machine if you don't close the bra. You don't have to wash your bras by hand, but if you have the time and inclination, feel free to do so. Be sure to wash them in cold water.

However, washing the bra in the washing machine on a cold delicate cycle works, too. If you have a lingerie bag, that is a good way to keep the bra from getting caught on other laundry or twisted up. NEVER dry a bra in the dryer. The heat will break down the spandex and shorten the life of the bra. Always hang/air dry.

know when to call it quits

Sports bras usually last about 6 months to a year, depending on use. Check your bras about once a month for wear and tear. Check the elastic band to make sure it's still kicking. Stretch it out and see if it bounces back quickly. If it doesn't bounce back well, get a new bra. Be sure to notice any pilling or wear on the fabric. If the fabric looks pilled or a little thin, it's time for a replacement. Finally, if you notice that you're bouncing a bit more than you used to while exercising, that's a big clue that the bra is about shot. As we like to say: Got bounce? It's time for a sports bra that won't let you down!
